HOW TO CHOOSE THE BEST 55 PLUS COMMUNITY | CHARLOTTE ACTIVE ADULT RETIREMENT COMMUNITIES | HOW TO CHOOSE A 55+ COMMUNITY
Hi there, are you thinking of moving to a 55 plus community? Retirement age has come and it’s time for you to think about where you want to spend your golden years. However, if you are not certain where to find the best retirement community, you need to do a little research. After all, this is likely to be the biggest financial investment you’ll make for the rest of your life. Stick around because I will be telling you the truth about 55 plus or active adult communities. This should be helpful whether you are looking to retire to Charlotte NC or elsewhere.
Hello, my name is Lynn Alvarez, a Realtor in Charlotte North Carolina with The Ally Group Real Estate. In this video, I will be talking about how to choose the best 55+ community in Charlotte North Carolina.
LOCATION AND HOME AFFORDABILITY
The first things you need to consider are location and home affordability. There are many 55+ active adult homes for sale in Charlotte and the surrounding areas from Lake Norman to nearby South Carolina. Check out our website at CharlotteActiveAdults.com. Generally, they range from $350,000 to $650,000. Be sure to consider HOA dues because they can run from $250 to $450 per month. Most 55+ communities include lawn and common area maintenance in their HOA dues.
AGE-RESTRICTED VS AGE-TARGETED 55+ COMMUNITIES.
Find out if the community you are interested in is either an age-restricted or age-targeted active adult community. Age-restricted communities are specifically aimed at people age 55 and older. Under rules set down by the US. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) in the Fair Housing Act, the community must include at least one person who is age 55 or older in at least 80 percent of the occupied units. Anyone under the age of 19 is prohibited from being a permanent resident. Whereas, homes in age-targeted communities target adults age 55 or older through amenities or organized activities. But they are not explicitly age-restricted.
AMENITIES
In 55+ communities, home builders and developers build wonderful amenities that cater to residents’ needs. These often include clubhouses with a lifestyle director who organizes various activities for residents on a social calendar, such as holiday parties and trips to local attractions. Some communities offer amazing pools in resort-like settings that will make you feel young again. Today’s active adults embrace outdoor activities such as golf, pickleball, tennis, bocce, walking, hiking, kayaking and canoeing. Residents want to enjoy cooking lessons, food and wine pairings, Zumba and aerobic classes, arts and crafts and other activities where they can enjoy the company of other active adults. Picture yourself if this is the lifestyle you want and make a list of your preferences in order of importance.
CONVENIENCE MATTERS
Explore the surrounding areas for proximity to the nearest airport, medical facilities, shopping centers and entertainment. If you travel often and you have regular visitors, consider the convenience of being close to the airport. The Charlotte-Douglas International Airport is a large airport and one of the ten busiest in the US. As we age, we tend to need more and better health care, so make sure you have easy access to your primary physician and specialist. Many retirees from different States love retiring in Charlotte because of the weather. Whether you are looking for shopping malls, supermarkets, restaurants, banks, pharmacies, theaters or entertainment, Charlotte has many to offer and usually only a few minutes away from any one retirement community.
As your Charlotte real estate agent, I will make appointments for you to visit our wonderful 55 plus communities in Charlotte and the surrounding areas.
