For this video, I visited my friend JD Brewer. JD is a big fan of dual shield flux core welding also known as outershield, gas shielded flux core, and probably a few other slang terms.
The main difference for JD is speed. He runs a welding business and anything that saves times also helps make him money.
Dual shield flux core saves time because it allows for a fast travel speed and high deposition rate, and it also saves time in material prep. Very little prep is required for dual shield. It penetrates thru light mill scale without leaving undercut and so by not having to prep each weld area to clean bright metal, preparation time is minimal.
