The University Grants Commission (UGC) has put 10 private universities in Madhya Pradesh on the defaulter list. The UGC has warned these universities that strict action will be taken if they do not improve. Officials said that actions like canceling their accreditation and stopping the admission process could be taken. However, notices have been issued to all of them asking for their explanation. Action will follow after their replies.

54 Universities Across the Country Are Defaulters
The University Grants Commission has listed 54 private universities in the country as defaulters. These include 10 in Madhya Pradesh, one in Assam, three in Bihar, three in Chhattisgarh, one in Goa, eight in Gujarat, one in Haryana, and four in Jharkhand. There are also defaulters in Karnataka, two in Maharashtra, three in Manipur, and one each in Tripura, Punjab, Rajasthan, and West Bengal.

Action taken against private universities
In June last year, the UGC had issued guidelines on self-disclosure by private universities. As per these rules, all higher education institutions had to upload important university-related information on their official websites. This information had to be visible on the homepage without any login or registration.

The homepage was also required to have easy navigation. In addition, under Section 13 of the UGC Act 1956, inspection reports with related documents had to be sent to the university registrar within a fixed time. But many private universities failed to follow these rules.
