CRAZY COHO CANAL SALMON FISHING ACTION - Vedder River Bobber Down

COLD WEATHER COHO River fishing the Vedder Chilliwack River Canal during October. This a compilation video of several evenings out fishing on the river this past fall. Always entertaining to hit after work with the guys in the evening. That last light bite can be amazing.

Oct 25th was a frigid evening at the river. The outflow wind was blowing hard, and the temps were low. Night time was well below freezing, and snow capped the mountains.

It might be miserable being outside in this kind of weather, but the bite can be intense. Surprisingly, more guys were toughing it out in the canal than usual this time of year. Shouldn't have surprised me since it has been a busy year in general.

That cold seems to trigger the coho. They are more aggressive than in September. They seem to hit everything without hesitancy. So, while there may be less fish around, they are more eager to drop your float.

I was out with @go2fishing_bc and my colleague Hirk. We enjoyed an absolute flurry of last light action. A huge school of jacks was dropping floats left right and center. A few adults in the mix as well.

I hooked this beautiful chrome coho on a bead as the sun angle dropped low before it dipped behind the mountain to the west.

We seriously were freezing, but when the fish moved in and the bite went off, we warmed right up as excitement and adrenaline heated us up.

If you didn't get a chance this year prior to the rain, try it out next year. Lures, beads, and roe are highly effective for fish pushing up through the canal. It is a very HIT and MISS fishery.... but when it HITS, it makes the misses worthwhile.

I have seen so many memes about fishermen who take pictures of sunsets. I enjoy fishing sunsets and photographing them... but I usually catch fish as well.
