Trudy Morgan-Cole is a writer and educator in St. John’s. After 27 years teaching English and social studies in high school and adult-education programs, she currently works as Intake Coordinator at The Murphy Centre, helping adult learners navigate paths to completing their education. Her career as an educator has focused on helping students overcome barriers to success and find their own voices.

Trudy is also the author of more than twenty books. Her acclaimed historical novels focus on Newfoundland history, with a particular interest in uncovering and recreating women’s stories. Her novels include By the Rivers of Brooklyn, A Sudden Sun, and Most Anything You Please. Her latest work, the Cupids Trilogy published by Breakwater Books, deals with the founding of the first English colony in Newfoundland, attempting to reimagine the stories of women colonists and critically examine their role in colonialism.

Trudy was born and grew up in St. John’s. After leaving the province as a young adult to pursue her undergraduate degree and take her first teaching position, she came home to earn her MA in English from Memorial University (1993), later returning to complete her M.Ed. in Counselling Psychology (2005). Trudy cares deeply about education, about the importance of the arts in our community, and about the need to uplift and centre marginalized voices. All these concerns contribute to her interest in the future of Memorial University and her desire to make a contribution by serving on the Board of Regents.
