No, student loan debt can not be discharged or forgiven through Chapter 13 bankruptcy. While the Biden administration pushed for a mass discharge of student debt, this plan was not allowed to legally move forward. In contrast, the Trump administration’s approach to student debt is “If you took out the loan, you should pay it back.”

While student debts are not dischargeable through Chapter 13 bankruptcy, you can still get credit for the portion of student debt you paid off through a Chapter 13 plan.

Outside of bankruptcy, it may be possible to discharge your federal student loan debt if you have worked in public service for 10 years while making regular payments. Be aware, though, that debt discharged in this way is counted as income, and will be taxed as such.
