Nikon Z6 III - The Art of Macro

Описание к видео Nikon Z6 III - The Art of Macro

This is the fourth video of a series on the Z6 III in use. This time macro photography and videography. Due to its compactness, the Z6 III is perfectly suited for macro shots. Best image stabilization and packed with excellent capabilities for photography and videography. Due to its small size and light weight you can get better shots. I am using Z6 III with the Z MC 105 (with and without extension tubes) and the Z180-600 plus 1.4 Tc. I am not using tripods or flashes and electronic silent shutter only. Insects are skittish animals with good hearing and sight. The extended observation of the perched dragonfly would have not been possible with more disturbing equipment. I personally think that the Z6 III is the best Nikon Z camera for macro work.

Stacking Techniques: The shallow depth of field is one of the main photography challenges in a marco shoot. Stopping down the lens makes it soft and reduces the number of photons leading reduced image quality. So stacking the scene is the only option. The build in stacking tool works nice, but is too slow and you loose control over the subject as you have to activate it via my menue. So you will see video stacks on top using the nraw and H265 Video codec. However, my favorite method is to use the 20 FPS electronic shutter mode and slowly pull focus through the subject using the contour filter.

Videography: Simply great. I do like the nraw footage and I do not understand how some people manage to mess it up. I enjoy working with it.

Slow Motion: I greatly appreciate to use the 4K nraw 120 FPS footage and play it in 4 times slow motion. I do like the take off and touch down shots of the dragonfly after catching food a lot. In this scenario I was holding the camera over a small creek to ge the shots of the perched dragonfly. I do not think that I would have made these videos with the Z9.

Lens Selection and Gear: Nikon has an incredible Macro lens the Z MC 105. In my opinion one of the best price to value selections for a prime lens in the Z lens selection. Contrary to its smaller brother it has build in VR that works in combination with the body. With lens tubes I easily overcome the 1:1 limit. The spiders have a body length of 7 mm. The other lens I always carry with my is the Z-180-600 with a Tc giving 1:3 close up roughly. Nice for different perspectives and in case you meet other animals. However, not only lenses and cameras are important. Sun protection, knee protection and protection from the blood sucking friends waiting for you in their macro habitat are equally relevant to enjoy this type of photography.

Suggestion(s): My top suggestions are probably not the ones you would expect.

Summary: One sentence – in my opinion the Z6 III is currently the best camera for macro shots.
