"Understanding the Epoch of Reionization using exascale computing"

Recent advancements in observational instruments such as JWST, ALMA, HERA, and many others are revolutionizing our understanding of primitive galaxies and the Epoch of Reionization (EoR). One theoretical counterpart is the THESAN project, which used the AREPO-RT code to evolve a cosmological box till redshift 5.5 self-consistently, including galaxy formation as in IllustrisTNG and radiative transfer.
In this talk, I will present a newly developed GPU-optimized version of AREPO-RT, specifically tailored to use current and future exascale computers. I also introduce the THESAN-ZOOM project to study individual galaxies with a resolved ISM during the EoR; the THESAN-VARIANT project, which aims to study galaxy formation in smaller, high-resolution boxes in different environments; and the THESAN-XL project, which consists of significantly larger boxes tailored to study the reionization process on large scales.
