How to calculate the effect size for Chi Square goodness of fit test in SPSS

After conducting the chi-square goodness-of-fit test in SPSS the difference between the observed and expected distributions (or rather effect) should be quantified. Effect sizes are used for this purpose. For the chi-square goodness-of-fit test, Cohen's ω (sometimes just: w).
