US Air Force Ranks Explained

Ranks in the United States Air Force are similar to those of their counterparts in the United States Marine Corps and United States Army. However, there are some differences which can make it difficult to differentiate the seniority of service members between branches. For example, an E5 in the Air Force is a Staff Sergeant, but in the Marines and Army, a Staff Sergeant is an E6.
