I believe this hasn't been uploaded separately yet (seriously what, it's a VERY important scene), so I've decided to do so. Will make notes later.
This is EXCLUSIVE to the DS version. It was supposed to be in the original version too, but was cut for some reason (I think it had something to do with "too much script, not enough room").
While we, the players, see the flashback through Golbez's eyes, The After Years makes it clear that he's also telling this story to the party at the same time.
Also, I hate this version's Laser Barrage :| 2800 right off the bat? Bullshit!

*The Japanese version - all releases, including the original Super Famicom - uses the term お兄さん (onii-san, or nii-san if you prefer the shorter) to describe Golbez - the term specifically refers to an older brother. Younger would be 弟 / おとうと (otōto), Golbez calls Cecil by this term in the cutscene immediately preceding the Zeromus fight.
**"-san" is a general purpose suffix, and implies at least some respect.
**Golbez is 30 in the main game, Cecil is 20. Ten-year difference.
*As of the start of The After Years, I believe only the "inner circle" (the playable characters of this game, plus Ceodore [Cecil's son, kid with the blue hair, or just go check my icon]) are aware of the nature of the relationship between the two. If Luca didn't know beforehand, then she does by the end of the Gathering Tale.
*How does a cute kid like this (http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Fi...) turn into... (http://s3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.c...) O_o not that I'm complaining...
Names
*"Theodor" is a common Greek name literally meaning "God's gift", or more poetically, blessing (there's probably a different literal translation for the latter, but meh, works in context).
*"Cecil" is derived from Latin "caecus" and means "blind". As in "unable to see", which adds to the irony if he falls under the Blind status. And yes North Americans, you HAVE been saying it wrong all this time; the European pronunciation as heard in-game is correct.
*Who knows if Cecilia used the last name "Harvey"...the FFWiki flip-flops on this, but currently says no (which makes me wonder where it's from in that case...I know the OOU meaning [something along the lines of "battleworthy" in Breton], I mean in-universe); I personally tag it onto her and Theodor as a convenience.
**Haha, typing in セオドア・ハーヴィ brings up maybe 300 results, but typing in the English equivalent - Ceodore Harvey - brings up close to 5000. Ascribing a last name to Ceodore seems to be primarily a quirk of the Anglophone fandom, and I don't think it's used in any official source, but it makes the most sense, and no-one's argued in the four years TAY has been out.
***Tradition is to take one's father's surname unless the parents explicitly state otherwise, hence he takes Cecil's, instead of Rosa's (full name: Rosa Joanna Farrell, and to the best of my knowledge, she didn't change it upon marriage...I'm impressed).
***There's an old naming debate on his wiki talk page, but that's "how do we romanise his first name???" kinda like the interim Pokémon naming debates...I do miss those days. ("it totally is Dialga in Japanese! Even the official merchandise says so!")
*"Born from womb of dragon's corpse are you!" - a reference to an obscure legend involving the fly species Simulium colombaschense, otherwise known as the Golubac fly (http://kidicarus222.blogspot.com/2009...)
