#DiyalumaFalls #LittleAdamsPeak #Ella

The great day your around Ella continues with an afternoon trip to Sri Lanka's 2nd Highest Waterfalls, Diyaluma Falls, followed by Little Adam's Peak for sunset. What a great day, albeit long (14 hours), fitting in Ella Rock for sunrise, Lipton's Seat, Diyaluma Falls and Little Adam's Peak.

I loved Ella. It's a very popular place for international tourists and domestic tourists alike, although when you go there you realise that there's a reason it attracts so many people!

Diyaluma Falls

The main falls are 220m high and rank as the second tallest in Sri Lanka (and 361st tallest in the world). There are pools that allow you to swim right on the edge of the cliff!

However, it's not just the main falls. There are 7 other waterfalls upstream form the main falls which offer plunge pools and spots to jump into the water.

Overall, Diyaluma waterfalls was a really pleasant surprise. After Central America I was 'waterfalled out', but it was great to see a number of local Sri Lankans camping at the top of the falls, playing music and relaxing....albeit nearly ruined by one guy with an annoying horn selling ice cream!

It's free to enter and takes about 30 minutes to climb to the top from Poonagala. It's around 1.5 hours from Ella in the Badulla District or 6km from Koslanda, and well worth the trip.

Little Adam's Peak

We ended up racing the sun back to Ella in order to climb Little Adam's Peak for sunset. Whilst you can walk to Little Adam's Peak from the centre of Ella, much like Ella Rock it's much easier to get tuk tuk to the base of the hill.

There's also the Flying Ravana zipline, which whilst expensive at $20, could be of interest to those that haven't zip lined before.

In terms of the 'hike' to Little Adam's Peak, it's relatively short. I did it in just under 15 minutes in flip flops. However, that doesn't mean that you shouldn't do it. It's very popular for a reason. The ridge line gives you amazing views of Ella Rock and the surrounding hillsides, casting beautiful shadows for sunset.

It was a great way to end a long day! Ella is one of the best known tourist attractions in Sri Lanka, but it doesn't feel overcrowded. It really is a beautiful place and it was great to see lots of domestic Sri Lankans turning up for the weekend.

If you're travelling Sri Lanka and don't have Ella on your itinerary, I'd seriously look at adding it!
