What is DAN?
Deaf Access Now (DAN) is a Deaf advocacy process for D/HH individuals
with communication issues that may need an attorney to fight their case.
Potter Handy LLP bridges with DAN to support and foster those that had
their rights violated and want to file claims.

If a Deaf person of all identities (deaf, deaf hard of hearing,
deaf-blind and deaf-disabled) is experiencing what they believe to be
discrimination – for example, a hotel and their website is not
accessible nor accommodating to their needs, a doctor's office is
refusing to coordinate and pay for an ASL interpreter for their service,
and/or businesses are not being inclusive by adding closed captions to
their digital platforms- they can contact the Deaf Access Now to support
them with Potter Handy's help.

SERVICES IN ASL
If you live in the state of California and have a claim to file, I am
able to advocate and perform intakes directly in ASL through VRS. If
there is any discomfort with ASL or using VRS, they can also choose to
email me or fill out a contact form through our website at

INTAKE PROCESS
Once an intake to collect information is complete. The attorney who
advocates for Accessibility will review the intake and determine whether
it is a claim that PH can help with. If PH decides to reject your case,
we have wonderful resources to support your needs.

LEGAL ADVOCACY
In the example of a business that violates any ADA law, we might send an
educational letter explaining the office's obligation under the ADA to
provide accessibility or include captions on their digital platforms –
and the letter would come from our attorneys, which often is enough for
the outside business or organization to shape up and provide what's
necessary for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing person and their staff to
communicate effectively and/or add closed captions to their digital
platforms/websites.

COMPENSATION
If they did not comply with the ADA law, and the client wants to file a
claim of the lawsuit, we will work with them to fight their fight to
remove barriers and increase accessibility and the client can be
entitled to thousands of dollars.
