ICOs or initial coin offerings for a long time were the prime investment vehicle in the blockchain space. It enables anybody who creates a digital currency to raise capital without the administrative burden of an IPO. All it takes is a whitepaper – which is a document laying out the model of the new coin – and investors who believe your coin will be successful. Investors buy coins and hope that their value with skyrocket. Unlike in an IPO, the investors do not buy a stake in the company.
