Choral Arts Philadelphia's 30th Anniversary season begins with this incredible choral tour de force in the magnificent acoustics and architecture of the Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter & Paul at the head of Philadelphia's Museum Mile. This performance also marks the opening of the second season of the Cathedral Basilica's own concert series.

The Vespers, or All-Night Vigil (although the performance does not last all night!) is one of Rachmaninov's most personal compositions since it is so closely linked to the traditional chants of the Orthodox liturgy. It is as though he is speaking, most profoundly, on behalf of fellow Russians throughout the ages.
