A while back, we put the popular Patagonia Nano Puff® jacket through the ringer. Despite it being a bit delicate and very hoodless, we loved that it was lightweight, warm and came with a great warranty from a reputable brand. Patagonia has since stepped up its game by adding a hooded version of the Nano and, more recently, launching the Micro Puff®—an even lighter synthetic down jacket.

Overall, if you’re looking for a dependable mid-layer or a lightweight jacket for mid-range temperatures, the Patagonia Micro Puff is a solid choice from a reliable brand. It weighs less and packs better the Nano Puff, but won’t keep you as warm in colder temps. Bottom line, if you’ve already got the Nano, we don’t really see any immediate need to “upgrade” to the Micro Puff. If you’re comparing the two, you’ll want to consider your intended usage climate and figure out if a couple ounces fewer is worth the slight loss in warmth.
