In this video, Sheri and I discuss two of the biggest tools that help us lower anxiety and close distance with people around a disagreement: empathy and listening to understand.

We want to talk about the critical importance of having a clear goal in these conversations: the goal of connection. Embracing the goal of connection means saying, “No matter what our disagreement, I will always elevate the value of you and our relationship above it. At the end of this conversation we may still disagree, but my goal is that we will also still be connected.”
