In Karnataka, you can lose your farm land to the government's 'technical problem', ask these farmers

A silly bureaucratic bungling has meant that refugees for erstwhile East Pakistan with Sarkar surname are being made to run from pillar to post to get back their own land. The land belonging to owners who had the ‘Sarkar’ surname was declared ‘Sarkari’ by land department officials, meaning they could not get any loan nor apply for crop insurance. There are 727 such farmers who are now living at mercy of babus and who are trying everything possible to get back their ownership in land records. Thousands of persecuted Hindus from Bangladesh who had fled what was then East Pakistan in 1971 were given refuge and land in seven states, including Karnataka to make a new beginning. Hopefully, after a long and needless struggle, they are likely to get back their land.
