The colonisation of a planet is a huge undertaking for the Imperium of Man. Trillions of tons of equipment make planetfall and machines the size of small continents terraform the planet for Imperial citizens. Military assistance is never far behind, as these huge conglomerations of technology and people are often the target of raids by gutsy Orks and sadistic Dark Eldar.

This world is an important one; hugely rich in metals and minerals essential for the vast manufacturing behemoth that the Imperium has become. The defense of which is not taken lightly; with an entire Imperial Guard regiment left behind to defend the enormous mining facilities dotted across the surface. Leading the regiment is a Lord General, an almost mythical figure amongst the Imperial military, he is said to have as many medals and commendations as soldiers he commands.

Almost a decade goes by and the regiment reels from constant Ork invasions, the green tide crashing against the formidable mechanised forces on the planet. The Lord General has faced countless battles with the Greenskin menace in his career and can't shake the feeling that something is wrong; their invasions are concentrated on a dozen very specific mining facilities. Either the Orks have some specific intelligence about these facilities, or they are trying to divert defences from their real target; both of which is far too organised for the savages. The Lord General demands that an answer is found, and his staff scour the planet for clues but none are found.

The answer instead comes to them. The Ork invasions suddenly cease, seemingly bored of this particular fight and off to find another. The Eldar then arrive just as suddenly, and the source of the Orks' apparent intelligence is clear. Attacks commence simultaneously across several facilities in a particular part of a particular continent. In his countless years of service the Lord General had never seen the Eldar attack so brazenly or in such numbers before, and they are obviously determined to achieve something on this world.

Recon specialist squads are sent out on fact-finding missions, those that escape the devious xenos return describing scenes that border on desperation from the Eldar; something the Lord General never thought he'd see from such a calculating species. The forces of an entire Craftworld seem to have descended onto the planet led by a Farseer; a powerful xenos psyker witch. The high ranking officers assume that the Eldar have come to plunder the resources, after first manipulating the Orks into disrupting operations long enough for an entire Craftworld to muster it's strength.

The Lord General demands a swift response, and musters Ogryn squadrons, his finest guardsmen and even the titanic super heavy tanks of the Imperial Guard to attack the Eldar head on in a pitched battle, the future of this vital Imperial world hanging in the balance....

.... Beneath the battle a restless evil, ancient beyond reckoning, begins to awake. Once dead and now undying, they slowly begin to rise on this world and countless others seeking to reestablish their rightful supremacy over the young and weak that have littered themselves throughout the stars. They will march an unstoppable march once more for their Overlords, and crush those that oppose them as easily as those that opposed them before.

The Imperium have chosen a Necron Tomb World for their gargantuan mining operation.
