"Prophecies," off my debut EP "Poetic License," is about big dreams that get passed on from generation to generation. This song is written for my parents; it’s about the sacrifices they've made for me, the pressure I've faced to make their dreams come true, & the parts of their prophecies I've kept close to my heart, even as I've carved a different path for myself. I hope enjoy listening to this one -- I'm so glad it's yours now :)

LYRICS:
When you were my age, you gave up your world,
Already married, raising a girl
Clinging to pages that never unfurled,
It must have been a whirlwind
You kept yourself drunk on childhood dreams,
They tore at your heart, you tore at the seams,
And when I grew up, you passed ‘em to me
But I don’t know how to hold ‘em
Broken prophecies you carried overseas
To give me the life that you knew you couldn’t lead
I know I’m not the girl that you thought I’d be
But even if you can’t believe it
Everything I do, I do it for you
All your prophecies, they came true
I’m living in the world you wanted me to
Even if it doesn’t look that way to you
Everything I do, I do it for you
You gave it all up, so I don’t have to
I’ll take your sacrifice and make it brand new
I promise everything I do, I do it for you
I do it for you
I cut off my hair, and colored my clothes,
Dabbled in boys, I wasn’t supposed to
All of the things, you always opposed
And I still turned out okay
'Cause I built my life, for no one but me
Hoping one day, you’ll finally see
I learned through your eyes, what it means to be free,
Turns out there’s more than one way
Broken prophecies of what my life could be
I'mma see 'em through, just a little differently
I know it’s hard for you to put your trust in me,
But even if you can’t believe it
Everything I do, I do it for you
All your prophecies, they came true
I’m living in the world you wanted me to
Even if it doesn’t look that way to you
(Even if it doesn't look that way to you)
Everything I do, I do it for you
You gave it all up, so I don’t have to
I’ll take your sacrifice and make it brand new
I promise everything I do, I do it for you
I do it for you
Look at what we did, look how far we came
You stood half a lifetime in the face of shame
Teaching me to take pride in my name,
So I wouldn’t have to do the same
Look at all the mountains, mountains that we climbed,
You stayed on the ground, so I could touch the sky
Every time your voice fell to the side
They’ll hear it when they’re listening to mine
So, all the prophecies you carried overseas,
I’ll keep them alive as long as they are mine to keep,
And when my time has come to raise a family,
I’ll let them choose how to read it
