We spent 3 weeks on local islands in the Maldives. With more than 1,000 islands in the country, the Maldives has a lot more to experience than just overwater bungalows and private resorts (although those are pretty amazing too)! We only experienced 6 out of the nearly 200 inhabited islands of the country, but we loved our time in the Maldives. One of our favorite highlights was spending a week scuba diving with South Ari Dive Center off the island of Dhangeti. In just a week we got to see a whale shark, manta rays, eels, turtles, sharks, octopus, and so much more. Another highlight was swimming with dozens of nurse sharks and dolphins off the island of Fulidhoo. And our favorite beach was on the island of Fulhadhoo. The Maldives locals are so friendly and every island is unique and beautiful in its own way. If you are visiting the Maldives, we recommend exploring as many of the local islands as you can!
