"Instead of hermeneutics we need an erotics of art", the American scholar Susan Sontag stated. What does art mean? What is the role of literary interpretation? Big questions like these have been debated since centuries. In her 1964 essay "Against Interpretation", Susan Sontag expresses her own views, arguing for a certain kind of interpretation and against many others. I react to her essay from my own perspective as an advocate for hermeneutics.
