"Between us" by Katas | Geometry Dash 2.2

I haven't heard of Katas before now, but I'll definitely look out for their works in the future after this. "Between us" has an incredibly unique atmosphere, which is, of course, partially due to the song choice. However, it's the visuals that do the most work. These fit the song incredibly well, but they also tell a story on their own. For me, this level gave me a nostalgic feeling. For one, the level has vertical bars on the sides, making it display at around 4:3 aspect ratio, just like old television. The transition effect between parts also add to this, with 0:48 being a good example. Within each part, there is beautiful background art of various scenery, such as the sunset at the end. The block design matches these backgrounds well, and with much of it being pixel objects, it also feels retro thanks to this.

With the level being so slow and only cube, the gameplay is not exactly anything to write home about. However, with a song and visuals like this, I don't think Katas could've made it much more exciting either. As it is, it makes the level feel very relaxing to play, which suits the aforementioned visual theming. It also gives you plenty of time to look at the visuals while also reading the upcoming obstacles, and this can be useful with so much detail in the background art and pixel designs. However, since you've presumably watched my video, playing it in-game is probably not going to give you much more since the visuals is this level's strength, not the gameplay. If it gets rated and you want stars, though, it's a very unique experience to have firsthand. It will most likely be 7 Stars due to its length, and it should get at least an Epic rating.
