Join Third Rate content as we delve into folklore, history and the mythical past as we visit St Martins Church which is located in the hamlet of Little Ness north west Shropshire.

Today the tiny Norman Church of St Martins sits surrounded by Yew trees (some of them ancient) on the base of the wooden Norman motte and Bailey castle which it was directly proceeded by.

However the area was likely used long before the conquest of 1066, as the neighbouring tumulus suggests.

This barrow has tales of treasure and odd goings on attached to it.
Could this possible burial mound contain the last King of Penguern Cyndylan?

A mighty warrior and King who may have fallen fighting the Saxons at a bloody battle at nearby Baschurch during the Dark Ages (Early Medieval period)

With research conducted in the last 10 years indicating the burial of a high status individual at the Burth near Baschurch, thought by some to be King Arthur, could this be the grave of Cyndylan?
At the very least this small area is packed with history and mystery.
