Jivya Mhashe is a humble man who hails from the Warli Tribe of Maharashtra. This tribe had for many hundred years practiced the Warli tribal/folk art in simple ways as a way to decorate their homes and courtyards especially for auspicious ceremonies and other social occasions. Jivya, even as a small boy sat around the women of his village who painstakingly painted the house and courtyard, often helping them to mix the vegetable colours and run other errands. With time and much devotion he became very skilled to paint this tribal form of art. Later it was his destiny to bring this art form which he named "Warli Art" before the whole world. He traveled widely with his paintings that saw a wide and special recognition in some of the most priced museums and art galleries in the world.

The Learning Space Foundation team visited his home and interviewed him about his origins and his ideas for the future generations of his tribe. LSF also has a wing that helps young boys and girls of adivasi tribes to learn the skill of handicrafts and in this way practice the art that is so rooted in them.
