If a thought arises which says, 'I want to speed up my awakening' or 'I want to be more present' or 'I want to get enlightened' and that thought is identified with, it projects one's attention into an imaginary future where there will be a moment that is better or more spiritual than this moment right now and a 'self' which is more enhanced.

Whenever thoughts of this nature arise, stay as the aware witness which perceives the thoughts arising. Don't identify with any mental desire, but keep your attention fully present in the moment. You will notice that the thoughts arise and then simply dissipate. The truth of who you are is not the 'I' that seeks, but the aware witness of both thoughts and desires, and that can only be known in the Now.
