Experiments in Japanning! Part 1 of ?

Описание к видео Experiments in Japanning! Part 1 of ?

Since this is my first time dabbling in the arcane alchemy of japanning, I decided to tape the trials and follies for all of you to enjoy, both in their splendor and horror. This first video is a lead into what will be the japanning of a pair of antique tailors shears from Heinisch.

Yes, I know the title cards go by fast! Just pause the video! I didn't want to make an extra-long video just for title cards.

Note,For all you looki-loos out there: The formula for my japanning mixture / recipe is not perfected yet, so do not use this video as an axiom for mixing your own japanning solution. This video is purely for informational purposes. I will make follow-up videos in the future once I am able to concoct a more perfect solution.

In the meantime, I suggest reading the instructional PDFs found at https://aplanelife.us/downloads

I also suggest watching the two videos "Best Japanning Recipe" on YouTube, but please watch them with a critical eye, as both of them miss pieces of the puzzle which I bring up in this video's narration.

In short, Hand Tool Rescue makes the mistake of mixing his Gilsonite in turpentine WITH boiled linseed oil, which retards the process, and Three Sons Restoration accidentally measured Recipe F by weight, which caused his mixture to become tar-like and unusable. I say this because I believe once viewers understand these two errors, they will be able to complete the puzzle and get a better result. I want to give both videographers credit for their hard work in research, demonstration, and documentation, for I would not have so easily found the answers to common problems otherwise. It's a team effort!

I also want to give credit and special thanks to The American Gilsonite Co. for supplying me with the product you see me use in this video. It was very nice of them.

tl;dr: It was an overall success! The next video will involve me utilizing this mixture for the restoration of a pair of shears!
