Pepper the silver lab and I were headed out one morning for our walk and I got to our gate to see two birds. They didn’t move when Pepper and I came up so I knew something was wrong.

It had been cold, but it wasn’t cold enough for them to have been caught off guard and frozen. I suspected they flew into something.

I didn’t want to leave the birds just lying there - one, I was afraid Pepper might try and eat them; two, what might get them just naturally while they were stunned and couldn’t fly off.

I grabbed a towel and a box.
I had going to cover them, pick them up, and put them in the box.

1. I was not going to touch them - use the towel.
2. Use the towel to cover their eyes so they wouldn’t panic.
3. Open box, so they could fly out when they were ready.

One bird flew off on its own. The other I got in the box and just left it sitting there. It was still there when we got back from our walk, but later in the morning was gone. It flew off!
