Midwest Steam Cass Railfan Weekend May1990 Part 1

In this video we visit the Cass Scenic Railroad in West Virginia. This was my first visit to the geared locomotive haven know as Cass.
The video opens with Friday afternoon views of Heisler #6 being prepared for the weekends events. Saturday morning started with four engines under steam on three tracks near the old C&O Cass station. After the photo runby three shays are coupled to the excursion train and Heisler #6 pulling two log cars with a log loader. At the switch back the grade is very evident, much of the line is 6%. At Whittaker we are trackside for the first of several photo runbys on the mountain. Part one ends with scenes of our train pulled by three Shays snaking up the track.
