Transcript/notes
The formula to calculate the percent discount amount is percent discount amount equals, the original price times the percentage off.

As an example, lets say that you need to by some new tires a tire store is having a 15% off sale for all the sets of tires in the store. You find a set of tires you like that cost $350. What is the percent discount amount, and what is the price of the tires after the discount?

Using the formula, the original price is the listed cost of $350, and the percentage off is 15%. Plugging into the formula, we have percent discount amount equals, $350 times 15%. We need to change the 15% to a decimal by dropping the percent sign and moving the decimal 2 places to the left to get .15.

$350 times .15 equals $52.50, and that is the discount amount, which answers the first question. And the price of the tires after the discount is $350, the original price minus $52.50, the discount amount. Which equals $297.50 as the price of the tires after the discount. And remember, this doesn’t include any taxes.
