Описание к видео REWET Training | Effective CO2/CH4 GHG measurements - Alessandro Petraglia, Parma University, Italy

Alessandro Petraglia (30/04/1975) obtained a Master's degree in Natural Sciences in 2001 and a PhD in Plant Biology in 2005, both from the University of Parma. For more than 25 years, A.P. has been studying high mountain environments, investigating the factors that influence the survival, distribution and coexistence of plant species in the main ecosystems that constitute the Alpine Life Zone. The core of A.P.'s research consists of monitoring and doing experiments in alpine tundra environments and in bryophyte-dominated ecosystems such as peatlands and springs. In these ecosystems A.P. has studied the effects of climate change on growth, reproduction and phenology of plant species, biodiversity, primary production, decomposition and CO2 fluxes. Throughout his career, A.P. has been involved in several research projects and networks that have significantly broadened his cultural horizons and research objectives. Of particular importance among these research networks is the International Tundra Experiment (ITEX), which investigates the effects of warming on Arctic and Alpine tundra ecosystems. Another of A.P.'s main areas of research is the study of the effects of drought on high altitude ecosystems within the international research network DROUGHT-NET, which aims to identify the main effects of reduced precipitation on terrestrial ecosystems around the world.

The REWET Training on Nature Restoration Law and Wetlands Conservation, held on 3 October 2024 and organized by IDENER, provided environmental professionals, educators, conservationists, and community leaders with essential knowledge and tools to advance wetland conservation.

Key highlights included in-depth discussions on the ecological importance of wetlands, their role in biodiversity, water filtration, and flood control, along with strategies for effective restoration. The program also addressed the latest techniques in conservation and the framework of the Nature Restoration Law.

------------------------------------

REWET is an EU-funded project aiming at facilitating sustainable restoration and conservation of terrestrial wetlands, including freshwater wetlands, peatlands, and floodplains, by applying fit-for-purpose technologies to monitor greenhouse gas emissions, biodiversity, meteorological events, and social aspects of sustainability. REWET project focuses on determining how the restoration and management of wetlands can be optimised to maximise their carbon uptake while in balance with type-specific natural processes and biodiversity.
