Monocots and dicots are two main groups into which flowering plants (Angiosperms) are divided. There are some easily observable characteristics that might help you to distinguish monocots from dicots, such as leaf venation, number of flower parts, or types of roots. We will also look at some exceptions to these “rules” and explain why you should never rely on any single feature to determine whether the plant is a monocot or a dicot.
