Things to do on Heron Island

Just off the coast of Gladstone, in the Southern Great Barrier Reef, lies Heron Island with a myriad of marine life and an incredible underwater world to explore.

You can snorkel the shallows right off the island or dive a little deeper on an outer reef snorkel or dive tour. If you arrive in turtle season (November - March) you'll be able to witness one of nature's greatest shows as turtles nest and hatchlings are born on the island's edge.

Sharing the island is the University of Queensland's research station which is the largest island-based research station in the southern hemisphere and runs tours for guests.
