Introducing "Ruth's Makeup Booth": A Captivating Video Project from Astoria Film Festival's Media Production Lab
Astoria, NY - June 2023 - The Astoria Film Festival (AFF) proudly presents "Ruth's Makeup Booth," a captivating video project that emerged during the Spring 2023 session of the AFF Media Production Lab. The project is a testament to AFF's unwavering commitment to increasing representation of historically-ignored voices and faces in the media by empowering local historically-ignored youth, including disabled, BBIA (Black, Brown, Indigenous, Asian), LGBTQIA+, immigrant/first-gen, and low-income individuals, to thrive as production professionals in the media industry.
The AFF Media Production Lab, a trailblazing initiative, provided a transformative platform for young talents to learn and grow under the mentorship of seasoned industry professionals. By training these emerging filmmakers, producers, and editors, the program seeks to equip them with the necessary skills, experience, and connections to pursue rewarding careers in the media realm, thereby fostering greater diversity and inclusivity in the industry.
"Ruth's Makeup Booth" featured a talented group of Spring 2023 Lab Fellows, including Gabriella Clarke, Jolanta Gralak, Emily Kiamie, Ruben Laporte, Nehemiah McFarlane, Angela Santos, Enjila Sherpa, and Theresa Youn. These remarkable individuals showcased their creativity and dedication, making the project a true celebration of the diverse perspectives they bring to the media landscape.
Under the expert guidance of AFF Lab Instructors Nina Fiore, Makeba L Ross, Kelly Villares, and Bryce Medley, the Lab Fellows delved into the world of media production, honing their skills and nurturing their artistic vision.
The talent behind "Ruth's Makeup Booth" was led by the Director of Photography, Makeba L Ross, whose masterful cinematography brought the project to life. The Producer, Director, and Editor of the video, Nina Fiore, infused it with creativity and ingenuity, crafting a captivating narrative. Kelly Villares, the Sound Mixer, ensured that every sound and dialogue resonated with viewers, creating an immersive experience.
"Ruth's Makeup Booth" is just one of the many impactful projects that have emerged from the AFF Media Production Lab, demonstrating the Lab's ability to provide a transformative platform for historically-ignored youth and aspiring media professionals.
The Astoria Film Festival is committed to breaking barriers and celebrating diverse voices in the media. With "Ruth's Makeup Booth" as a testament to their efforts, the AFF looks forward to continuing their mission of promoting inclusivity and representation in the industry.
