In Songs of Conquest you control powerful characters named Wielders, exploring vibrant maps loaded with events, items, and gold, leading an army in pitched tactical turn-based battles. Combat maps are a hexagonal grid that includes terrain, elevation, cover, and obstacles. Units are represented by single units in battle with a health pool made up of the number of troops who are recruited at bases and sometimes found by exploring. Wielder characters are imbued with magical abilities charged up by essence that can give you an edge in battle. Essence is charged by troop type, that unlocks different offensive and defensive abilities, so selection and composition of an army is strategic. The game is visually stunning, with gorgeous pixel art maps and characters. Between missions there are musical interludes that add a nice touch.

At the time of writing this the game is still in early access, but already includes lodes of awesome content, with lots of content still to come. So I’d say it’s worth the pricetag – especially if you can snag it on sale like I did!
