My daughters mean a lot to me, for years I worried as I saw them going down the wrong paths and blamed myself for where they went. I saw a reflection of what I had done as a young adult in them and wanted to help them avoid the pit falls I endured. This at times had put a roadblock in our relationships.
Through prayer and learning to live like Jesus, I found that I did not have to hold myself hostage and be mad which would cause harsh word and fights. They are their own person and no matter how much I wanted to influence their decision making they went further from what I expected. Then I learned, I had to let go; that God has them in the palm of His hand. He loves them more than I do! If God can rescue me then He will, in His time, pull them back. Proverbs 22:6 says “Train up a child in the way they should go; and when they are old, they will not depart from it.”
God is so cool! He knows we and our children need to “sow our oats” but he promises the parents that he will pull them back! How cool is that? I don’t have to worry because God’s word is final and true. He will do what He promised. It takes a lot of fear out of my life as I look to the Author and Finisher of MY Faith, God will handle my daughter’s faith and I can just trust Him.
Joel 2:25-26 says ““I, the Lord, sent my army against you. The swarming locusts and the hopping locusts and the destroying locusts and the cutting locusts[a] ate everything you had. But I will pay you back for those years of trouble.
26 Then you will have plenty to eat. You will be full. You will praise the name of the LORD your God. He has done wonderful things for you. My people will never again be ashamed.”
Ephesians 5:15-16 also says “Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
It won’t happen as I plan, but it will happen and as much as I love all my children, God loves them more. They may have to run a gauntlet of trouble and miss-understanding between Father and Daughter but they have to walk their path and God is always there for them, they need to make the decision and it may be when they are old; I may be gone but the harmony between father and daughter will always be there, the word of God was sowed.
This morning musical song comes from Phil Keaggy and speaks to the relationship of a Father and Daughter, how we cannot let hate or worry break the bonds of love that Satan would love to put there. How the Love between them will hold fast. If you are struggling with your children today, stop, love them, be the one to tear down the walls of hurt if they are there and let God hold your pain. Just as we have harmony with God through His love, build that relationship back up, as the Prodigal Son did coming back and the Father welcomed him back, so we should do if we have wandering children.
