Welcome back to my channel! After almost 2 years, I'm finally back with a new video. Even during my absence, my passion for travel and exploration never stopped. In this vlog, I take you on an incredible journey to West Africa, starting in Ghana.
I flew from my home city of Los Angeles to Accra Kotoka International Airport, with a layover in Paris. Upon arrival, I was picked up and taken to the fantastic Villa Montecello, a hotel with great customer service and delicious food.
My personal driver’s name was Shaq, and he was personally referred to me by Sammy. Day 1, he took me to the Kona National Park, where I walked the suspension bridge. We then drove to Elmina Slave Castle, followed by Cape Coast Slave Castle, where I learned about the history of my ancestors before they were shipped to the Americas for slavery. No words can describe the emotional experience I felt standing in those chambers and seeing the doors of no return. I recommend everyone visit and experience it for yourself.
On Day 2, I had the opportunity to get my hair braided at the famous Bukslay Salon for just $50 USD! The customer service was exceptional, and my braids turned out amazing. If you're in Accra, I highly recommend visiting Bukslay Salon for a top-tier hair experience.
On Day 3, Shaq picked me up and drove me to Togo, stopping at the local market and the famous Black Star Square along the way. The Ghana/Togo border was about 3 hours from Accra. The border crossing was not bad, but Please ensure you have a local guide at the border. It can be dangerous, and you can encounter some corrupt officers who will garner money from you in addition to the fees. I advise that you get an E-Visa online… the cost was about $45 USD. However, please do your research, because things have probably changed since I visit. Nonetheless, be prepared to be at the border for 30 minutes to an hour.
Day 4 was an exciting day as I woke up and headed to Kailend Farm with my brother Sammy, who is the founder. Sammy gave me a thorough orientation to the farm and the agricultural process as a whole.
On Day 5, we visited the God is Grace orphanage, where I brought food and household supplies as a token of my love and support. Sammy also brought fresh produce from the farm and some clothes for the kids and staff. I had the opportunity to tour the lovely orphanage and spend quality time with the kids, which was the highlight of my trip. After leaving the orphanage, we visited the beautiful Cascade De Wome waterfall, which was so peaceful and scenic.
Day 6 started with more farming and gardening activities. As an animal lover, Billy the goat became my personal baby, and Ashford was my right-hand man, helping me with everything I did.
On Day 7, we woke up at 5 am for beekeeping, which is best done early in the morning or late in the afternoon. After finishing our beekeeping activities, it was time to hit the road and head back to Lome for drop-off.
Stay tuned for Part II, where I'll be sharing my adventures from Day 8, where I am picked up from Onomo hotel and taken to Benin. You won't want to miss it!
I've been traveling to Africa for 7 years now, and each visit continues to inspire me. When Sammy reached out to me about @kailend and @kailendfarm, I did my research and felt incredibly proud of what he was doing. That's why I decided to go and visit, and I'm so happy I did. I learned so much and want to highlight all of Sammy's efforts. He is welcoming to anyone who wants to visit and be a part of this amazing project's forward movement.
Let's normalize supporting positivity, spreading love, and shining a light on projects like Kailend Farm. Thank you again, Sammy, for the warm welcome and the opportunity to be part of this incredible journey. I'll be back soon with my girls @morgirlswithgoals in 2025!
