Inova Children's Heart Program: Surgery Day

Kayla received heart surgery at Inova Children's Hospital. She shares what you can expect the day of your heart surgery.

You will have a team of heart superheroes helping you the day of your surgery. You will check in at the front desk and wait for someone to call your name.

When you are called back with the nurse you will change into your hospital pajamas. They will take your weight, height and temperature.

You will get a special bag for your toys and they will brought to your room once you wake up after surgery.

You will walk back into the operating room and you will get a medicine that will help you sleep during the surgery.

During the surgery the heart superheroes called your parents to let you know how the surgery was going.

Once the surgery was done you will be brought to a place called the ICU and the nurses and doctors will keep checking to make sure you are doing well.

You now will rest, so you can feel better to return home in about 3 - 7 days.
