Léon Marchand : incroyable ! Déjà un record du monde (NCAA) sur 500 yards nage libre (4'06.18)

8 mars 2024, on ne pensait plus pouvoir être surpris par Léon Marchand, et bien si : après le 4 nages, la brasse, le papillon, le crawl maintenant ! Au Pac 12 (c'est-à-dire les 1/2 finales NCAA), sur 500 yards crawl (équivalent du petit bassin), Léon Marchand vient de battre ce matin le record de Kieran Smith (4'06.32) (médaillé de bronze en 2021aux JO de Tokyo sur le 400m libre, Champion du monde 2022 du relais 4x200 avec les USA). Une performance rare, due essentiellement à ses coulées, presque du jamais vu, qu'un record NCAA tombe dès le Pac 12. D'autant que son coéquipier Drew Kibler vient de révéler que Léon est encore en pleine phase d'entrainement et fatigué. À 3 semaines des finales NCAA, Léon Marchand nous fait déjà rêver à ses futurs exploits. En yards petit bassin dans quelques semaines bien-sûr (où donc il est très avantagé par ses coulées extraordinaires) mais aussi maintenant sur 400m libre en grand bassin, il en est encore loin mais pourquoi pas dans le futur ?

March 8, 2024, we no longer thought we could be surprised by Léon Marchand, and yes: after the im, the breaststroke, the butterfly, the freestyle now! At the Pac 12 (i.e. the NCAA 1/2 finals), on 500 yards free (short course equivalent), Léon Marchand has just beaten this morning the record of Kieran Smith (4'06.32) (medalist of bronze in 2021 at the Tokyo Olympics in the 400m freestyle, 2022 world champion in the 4x200 relay with the USA). A rare performance, mainly due to his underwaters, almost unheard of, that an NCAA record falls in the Pac 12. Especially since his teammate Drew Kibler has just revealed that Léon is still in the middle of training and tired. 3 weeks before the NCAA finals, Léon Marchand is already making us dream of his future exploits. In short course yards in a few weeks of course (where he is very advantaged by his extraordinary underwaters) but also now on 400m freestyle in long course, he is still far away but why not in the future?
