How Does Cocaine Work?

Cocaine has an exciting and stimulating effect caused by the blockage of serotonin, dopamine and noradrenaline reuptake receptors. That means that all of these excitatory neurotransmitters are overactive in the brain and body, making you feel high!

The downside is that cocaine causes your heart to race, your body to sweat, your mind to stress and your blood pressure to increase. All of these symptoms can lead to seizures, fainting or even a full blown heart attack...DEATH!

Cocaine is also highly addictive due to its impact on your dopamine reward pathway. Repeated usage of cocaine can lead to a serious addiction and tolerance toward the drug, meaning you need to use more of it in order to feel its effects. This increases your risk of overdose greatly.

If you overdose using cocaine, it can cause all of the negative symptoms mentioned above. The best way to treat an overdose is to go to the hospital or see a medical professional. It will probably save your life.
