🌿 Every two weeks, our farm managers offer an inside look at the regenerative farming techniques we use across @FarmlandLP's farms. This video is from Jack Ringe, who's up on our VFO Walla Walla farm in Washington State. He's showing how he composts directly under vines to improve soil health, enhance water retention, and protect vines from frost.

Here’s how it works:
1️⃣ Targeted Composting: Compost is carefully applied in a narrow strip directly under the vines. This precision technique improves soil structure, boosts water retention, and enhances nutrient availability where the vines need it most.
2️⃣ Winter Protection: After the compost is applied, a protective hill of soil is added on top. This process insulates the graft union (the vine’s most vulnerable part) from harsh winter conditions, safeguarding young vines from freeze damage.
3️⃣ Long-Term Soil Health: By incorporating the compost into the soil, we promote better water holding capacity, microbial activity, and resilience against extreme weather—all key to producing premium wine grapes.

We actively farm one-third of our land while also helping to introduce and implement regenerative practices across all our farms, including leased land. This holistic approach helps improve farmland productivity and sustainability for the long term. 🍷
