Love In Action: Eileen's Story

Today is International Overdose Awareness Day, though I think we should expand it to include all drug-related deaths. There are so many more that go unrecognized.

One of the greatest tools we have to combat addiction and drug related deaths is love and belonging. We need to provide love and belonging not just to those who say they want recovery, or are in recovery. But to all those who struggle with their relationship to substances, regardless of proximity to recovery. Otherwise, we leave behind millions of people whose suffering could be eased with love and support, and who may find their way to a better quality of life through the hope that love gives.

The story of Eileen is a great example of the difference love can make when we stop predicating it on a person's desire to change.

This is love in action.
