Kayaking on the Des Moines River from Dolliver State Park
In June of 2021, Kay got the opportunity to explore outdoor activities in and near Fort Dodge, Iowa. One of the activities Kay got to do is kayaking on the Des Moines River Water Trail from Dolliver State Park to the town of Lehigh. Dolliver Memorial State Park in northwest Iowa is unique for its natural bluffs and geological formations. Dolliver overlooks the Des Moines River Valley and spreads across 594 acres of flatlands and rugged trails. It is a beautiful state park with lots of history.
The Des Moines River Water Trail is known as a "meandered river". That means that the the river and its banks (up to the high water line). It is always good to looks for wildlife while you paddle. There is always a chance to see otters, turtles, eagles, turkey vultures, and song birds.
