Generic name: Isotretinoin.
Brand names: Accutane, Roaccutane and Claravis.
Available as a capsule.

How to use it?
Swallow the capsule completely with half a glass of water. Do not break the capsules and Do not chew on it. It is also best to take the capsule during or right after a meal.

Duration of treatment?
The usual treatment takes 4-6 months.

When to use it?
Isotretinoin is used to treat acne.

What is the correct dosage?
Always use the dosage and frequency prescribed by your own doctor.
Usually your doctor prescribes 0.5 mg / kg body weight per day divided into 1 to 2 doses.

What are the side-effects?
Very common (more than 10%): dry skin, itching, rash, skin irritation, eye irritation, dry eyes, back pain and changes in blood values.
Common (1-10%): Dry nose, nosebleed, headache, blood in your urine and changes in blood values.
Rare (0.01-0.1%): allergic skin reactions, severe allergic reaction, mood swings, anxiety, (increase in) depression and aggression.

Safety:
Don't combine isotretinoin with alcohol.
Isotretinoid could also cause dizziness, drowsiness or vision problems. If you experiencing any of these, than please don’t drive your car. This drug also has several interactions with other drugs. Therefore always discuss this with your prescribing doctor.
And lastly avoid sun exposure and make sure to put on sunscreen.

Pregnancy and Lactation:
Isotretinoid is dangerous in both cases and should NOT be used. In fact it is standard protocol to prescribe women birth control one month before starting isotretinoin up until one month after finishing the treatment.
Always discuss this with your prescribing doctor.
