This session will present an overview of HGP-write: Testing Large Genomes in Cells (HGP-write) with talks intended to introduce, inspire and anticipate the outcomes of HGP-write. In addition to utilizing genome engineering technologies to enhance our understanding of the human genetic blueprint, HGP-write will develop foundational tools and methods capable of programming new and prescribed phenotypes with broad utility, supporting basic R&D of new bio-based therapies, vaccines, materials, energy sources, disease vector control and nutrition. Presentations on Sc2.0 – The Synthetic Yeast Genome Project – and rE.coli – the design and construction of recoded E. coli genomes – will describe lessons learned from related whole genome engineering efforts in model bacteria and eukaryotic species.
