20 Looking for sea shells with my Thai husband | หาหอยกัน ม่อน&มายัน

In this episode of beautiful stories from Koh Lanta we join a fishing trip with our kids and a local fisherman couple called Ja Malee and Bang Godet from Koh Por, a real authentic and non-touristy local island just opposite of Koh Lanta island.

We are leaving from the Old Town pier. The plan is to go look for dog conches หอยชักติน in the sea, which is a specific kind of shell that can be looked for when the tide is low, the weather is good and the water is clear. We dive in the water and try to find any type of shells and we find lots of stuff!

First we find very big shells that in Thai are called หอยขาไก่ chicken leg shells. they are really big and delicious but have some poisonous water in them, so Ja Malee will show us how to clean the shell and remove all the water. Then we also catch the sea mushroom เห็ดทะเล, which just looks like an unidentifiable object but is really a mushroom.

Every time we go out fishing with this lovely family we learn so much! See new things we have never seen before and learn about their simple and beautiful way of life close to nature.

Fast forward to next week: we catch some more shells and some interesting fish, and then we go to Koh Por, looking for shells on the beach while the sun sets. And then Ja Malee is cooking us an unbelievable meal full of seafood, so delicious and we talk about their life on the island. Please stay tuned and watch it!
