In the AONB there are 359 agricultural holdings covering just over 25,000 hectares of land. This is 65% of what there was ten years ago, when there were 598 holdings. But the land they manage has only dropped by 7% - 1773 hectares. There are now fewer farms, working bigger areas of land.
782 people are directly employed in agriculture within the AONB, a quarter less than were employed in this field ten years ago
With so much of our area farmed, we wanted to help more people understand what it means to be a farmer and work in the AONB. We also wanted to look at how farming has changed over the last 100 years
