Orange is the New Black - Improv Class

Here at Laugh-Masters Academy we love the idea of teaching improv to inmates and were pleased to see this exact thing on “Orange is the New Black” Season 3, Episode: Empathy is Boner Killer.

In this scene you can see the characters using audience suggestions to initiate a scene, doing some basic physical work and miming, following the rules of agreement and acceptance, and being encouraged to listen and react with empathy, rather than trying to perform.

You can also see them breaking a couple of the soft rules of improv such as “Don’t deny” (‘That’s not a phone, that’s a dick!’) and asking questions instead of making statements.

We also loved that one of our partners schools - UCB - got a shout out.
