📍Lower Lewis River Falls: One of the most iconic and swimmable waterfalls in the entire Pacific Northwest — with a glowing blue-green pool, natural diving ledges, and views that seriously feel straight out of a fairytale.

Here’s what to know before you go:

🥾 Getting there:

Park at the Lower Falls Recreation Area in Gifford Pinchot National Forest. From the day-use lot, follow the short trail to the overlook — then take one of the footpaths down to the river (there are ropes to help you down). It’s steep but doable — just take your time.

💦 Swimming:

This is one of the rare waterfalls in WA where you can safely swim at the base. The pool is deep and clear, and the rock shelf around it is perfect for lounging or even diving in (be cautious).

Want to hike? The Lewis River Trail continues to Middle and Upper Falls if you’re up for more adventure and even more jaw-dropping, magical scenery! The full trail is 8.3 miles and rated “moderate”.

📅 Permit required:

From June 15–Sept 15, a day-use permit is needed. Reserve ahead at Recreation.gov (search “Lewis River Recreation Area”).

🌿 A quick note on Leave No Trace:

This spot is wildly beautiful — but it’s also fragile. Stay on established footpaths to avoid erosion, and pack out every single piece of trash (even fruit peels). Please don’t carve into trees or rocks, and skip the soap — even the biodegradable kind can harm the ecosystem. Let’s keep this place magical for the next adventurers.
