Canola Evaluations: Stand Counts and Planting Depth

Описание к видео Canola Evaluations: Stand Counts and Planting Depth

In this video, Pioneer Field Agronomist Kristie Sundeen walks you through a postemergence canola evaluation and how to take a stand count to determine your plants per square foot. There are a few different ways to take stand counts, including the hula hoop method. Traditionally, canola only has a 50% to 70% survivability rate, so keep that in mind during your stand counts. Kristie also shows you how to safely dig up canola seeds to analyze planting depth, and investigate any seed death, compaction, or planter issues that may have happened during planting, as well as determining your seeding depth after digging out a plant. Finally, scouting for insect pressure should also be done during this time, with flea beetles and cutworm being the most prominent pests. You'll also see what insect pressure can look like, as well as guidelines for knowing when you should take management action against insect pressure.
